Accelerate Memphis Small Area Plans

Malasri Engineering, operating as a subconsultant for Opticos Design Inc., helped to craft Small Area Plans for Highland Heights, Hollywood-Hyde Park, Klondike, Orange Mound, Soulsville, and South City. Small Area Plans address growth, improvement or preservation for a specific area of the city and may address future land use, zoning, design, transportation, housing, or other specific goals identified by individual communities. The Malasri Engineering team provided opinion of probable construction costs for concepts rendered in these Small Area Plans, which were used by the city’s Division of Planning and Development to plan the implementation of improvements across the sites.

Memphis Public Investment Guide

As a subconsultant to Interface Studio, Malasri Engineering assisted in the development of the Memphis Public Investment Guide, a toolkit providing crucial information about allowable improvements for local communities. The guide supplements the City of Memphis’ comprehensive master plan, knowns as Memphis 3.0, and was designed to help people understand existing issues in any given neighborhood anchor, and to identify the potential options to help address those issues – allowing citizens to help determine how improvements are made in their own communities.

Pinch District

The Pinch District is an historic nine-block area in downtown Memphis. Since 2017, Malasri Engineering has been designated as the prime consultant by the City of Memphis Division of Housing and Community Development for the ambitious Pinch District Development Project. Responsibilities include overseeing the infrastructure improvement projects outlined in the $48 million State Infrastructure Fast Track Grant. These projects include a 48” sewer line relocation and three phases of converting overhead utilities to underground.

The Memphis and Shelby County Community Redevelopment Agency (CRA) is working to address basic infrastructure needs in the Uptown Tax-Increment Financing (TIF) District by providing sidewalk repair and public cameras, and to ensure adequate lighting for the streets and the community.
