RIVERSIDE DRIVE STREETSCAPE IMPROVEMENTS

The Riverside Drive Streetscape Improvements project is a transformative, accelerated infrastructure initiative led by the City of Memphis to enhance connectivity, safety and public accessibility along one of the city’s most iconic corridors adjacent to the Mississippi Riverfront. It creates a stronger connection between Tom Lee Park, Riverside Drive and the Bluffs. The project corridor extends from West Georgia Avenue to Beale Street, redefining Riverside Drive to better serve pedestrians, cyclists, motorists and nearby public destinations.

Malasri Engineering supported the city in advancing coordination across multiple disciplines and construction activities in parallel to meet a highly compressed delivery schedule, aligned with adjacent riverfront improvements. This approach enabled complex roadway reconfiguration and streetscape enhancements to be delivered efficiently without compromising safety or quality.

Design Features:

Road Diet: Converting the corridor to one through lane in each direction with auxiliary lanes as needed to improve safety and calm traffic

Angled Parking: Integrated within the existing roadway footprint, including along the award-winning Tom Lee Park, with alternating parking to further support traffic calming

Streetscape Elements: Designed to strengthen pedestrian priority while maintaining access and mobility

Aligned with the Memphis 3.0 vision, the Riverside Drive project enhances a vibrant civic space, improves multimodal mobility and corridor safety, and elevates the public realm to connect communities along the Mississippi Riverfront. It also serves as a model for accelerated project delivery through early coordination and parallel workstreams across design, procurement and construction.
